As an organizer with MACC, I spent days on the ground with my peers, pitching in wherever necessary and generally getting swept up in all the excitement and solidarity of a successful blockade. We were there as anarchists and abolitionists determined to articulate the clear line between ICE detentions, the prison industrial complex, and the capitalist nation-state’s borders. But despite its grounding in radical abolitionist politics, #OccupyICENYC also drew support from local people from all walks of life and leftist political tendencies, from tourists and parents with their kids to DACA recipients, city workers, and FDNY trucks, and steadily gained momentum as word spread. The blockade started on Thursday, June 21 with a rally out front of the center; organizers were determined to hold the space for as long as we could, and prevent ICE from deporting or sending any more people to detention centers. vtt scott scale 765 6 Scary-Good Movies That Should Be Required Viewing Every HalloweenCheck this out: vtt scott scale 765 In our modern media landscape where real courtroom dramas have increasingly been transformed into a form of entertainment, the Netflix documentary series Trial by Media reflects on some of the most dramatic and memorable trials in recent history. Since televised coverage introduced a new emphasis on creative storytelling and showmanship into the legal system, the courtroom has never been the same. Over six compelling parts, Trial by Media explores the many ways in which the press have contributed to reshaping public perception about guilt or innocence before, during or after a trial. The series features cases reaching across different areas of the law including the unforgettable Jenny Jones made-for-Court TV murder trials, the sensational story of Rod Blagojevich’s political fall, and the case of Amadou Diallo, an unarmed African immigrant who was shot 41 times by police in New York City. Trial by Media is a Supper Club production, in association with Smokehouse Pictures, and is directed by Skye Borgman (Abducted in Plain Sight), Garrett Bradley (Time), Academy Award® nominee Yance Ford (Strong Island), Emmy® nominee Brian McGinn (Amanda Knox), Sierra Pettengill (The Reagan Show), and Tony Yacenda (American Vandal). Executive producers are author and lawyer Jeffrey Toobin (The People vs. O.J. Simpson); journalist, author and Court TV founder Steven Brill; Smokehouse Pictures’ George Clooney and Grant Heslov; and Supper Club’s McGinn, Jason Sterman and David Gelb.Available on May 12True: Terrific TalesNETFLIX FAMILY vtt scott scale 765 At the time I auditioned I was 21, so it wasn’t decades ago that I was in high school. I was a model with long hair, and I was like, “Whoa, this is too refined for high school.” So cutting my hair into a mushroom cut—styled a little bit weird like a high school haircut—really conveyed Kat’s confidence. You could literally see Kat in her different phases through the costume, hair, and makeup choices. vtt scott scale 765
