The show is about Jillian’s life as a whole, but it’s the scenes with her partner Heidi that I rewind and re-watch a dozen times. By reforming the way schools rehabilitate and discipline justice-involved youth, the number of youth entering prison with unmet mental-health needs can be reduced drastically. According to Fettig, most “[juvenile] institutions...are are not set up as mental-health institutions. The staff are very rarely given the training that they need to deal with children who have serious mental-health issues and behavioral problems. Another approach is to press local officials to create a standardized health-care protocol across the country so incarcerated youth can all receive the same quality of care. The last major way to help is to get involved — whether you are in high school, college or professional school, you can volunteer with organizations that service these populations, or even with juveniles in the system. This story is part ofKids IncarceratedaTeen Vogue dragon ball adidas shenron
