Throughout my career I have also experienced instances of purposeful misgendering meant to hurt or embarrass me. Recently, I was working a fashion event that featured a red carpet. A male photographer who is also often at these events was there too, and we were positioned next to one another as we were capturing the celebrities entering the event. Repeatedly he shouted to the talent, “Ok, now next to him,” which is a common way to get a celebrity’s attention for a shot when you’re in a sea of lenses. However, I have told this photographer multiple times over the years that I prefer female pronouns. He refuses to give me that respect. Misgendering purposefully attempts to invalidate and erase the transgender community.Getty Images 2 adidas Emmys 2017: Best-Dressed Celebrities on the Red CarpetCheck this out: 2 adidas (D-PA 5th District) started a viral Twitter moment on Thursday after sharing a photo of herself wearing two different shoes to work. "People ask me all the time about the pace of things in DC. It’s 4:04 PM and I just noticed that I have gone an entire day with two different shoes on," she wrote in the post. The photo she shared showed her working in the office while wearing a black shoe on her left foot and a similar blue shoe on the right. 2 adidas not have worked as they originally intended to, but it's safe to say this is a more than positive outcome after all.ContentView Iframe URLLet us slide into your DMs.Sign up for theTeen Voguedaily emailWant more fromTeen Vogue?
