But I think that when it comes to in-person interactions, people are more polite. The anonymity of the internet [allows people] to show their true colors, so I had quite a few people that were always posting anti-trans and transphobic things on my Twitter feed. I don’t ignore it because I think that it’s important to watch your back when you’re a public figure, and your safety can be compromised by these kinds of people that have these ideas. So I do look at the comments and I do read what they say just because I want to be able to report the people I see that are saying things that might be harmful to me. For the most part, I’ve heard it all already.
