In 2016, I created the project “Unmasked Women.” I started thinking about my experiences coming into the U.K. I had been quite severely racially bullied when I was really young, [which] meant that I was constantly trying to erase elements of my culture, forcing my hair not to be natural, doing everything I could to fit into a culture that didn't want me to fit in.
