I'm interested in seeing more stories about the diaspora. I think that black stories and storytelling are important. But so often in fiction and in television, we separate the different types of black folks, specifically in the United States. I think that having black African identity and west Indian identity and African-American identity more in conversation with each other is really important. It's interesting being positioned as someone that's first-gen and trying to define blackness for myself because it's moving through the world in a way where you're constantly settled in two homes and constantly switching. a crying emoji on a parody Instagram account that captioned the infamous photo with the line: "Congratulations to Sam Smith on what looks like his first-ever kiss." When Ryan began to doubt whether or not he was right for the title role inDeadpool I was in a documentary film program in high school and very early on I knew that I wanted to do nonfiction storytelling. When people find themselves in high school and find an identity and find a way to express themselves, that's what that film program was for me.
