Young people in large numbers who had been politically active, or may not have been politically active previously, were becoming more activated at a local level. Some knew already, but some for the first time were making connections between local government and the things that they cared about the most — most immediately, racial justice, police brutality, and the murders of Black Americans at the hands of police — but more broadly speaking on a range of issues that I think are of concern to young people, and they started to see that local government mattered.
