In late February 2018, just days after the shooting in Parkland, FL, a group of us traveled to Washington, DC, to share our story with policymakers and demand change. Of all the meetings we had that day, it was our time with Congressman John Lewis that stood out. We didn’t have to convince him that gun violence had become an epidemic in this country. We didn’t have to ask him to step up and lead. We didn't have to quietly wonder whether he was offering hollow lip service to promises to act because we were high school students. Lewis, the civil rights champion, was on our side. He looked us in our eyes and spoke to us plainly. He said it wouldn’t be easy. Just the idea of one of us not being on set every day was a little sad.â The cast, he notes, is close now â they hang out together and actors have returned from their onscreen âdeathsâ to visit the set, and have since reunited at barbecues and house parties. The opening sequence in the film, which features social mediaâstyle footage of the characters running around the beach in Mexico, was filmed by the actors themselves. âIt was one of the most lighthearted, fun sets that Iâve ever been on,â Tyler notes, which seems a little odd given the subject matter.
