With her layers of cis heterosexual privilege, she could have easily turned a blind eye to the injustices I face every day, but Kat has never done that. Instead, she has the uncomfortable conversations with her peers, she educates herself tirelessly, but most importantly, she listens to the voices that go unheard all too often. Working on Kat’s campaign was the privilege of a lifetime. Because of Kat, a movement in our state of Rhode Island has been created, one dedicated to passing the mic to youth organizers, trans people, and marginalized candidates. I am lucky to call her my family, to have worked on her campaign, and to live in a city that will go on to elect such a fearless leader as one of our next city councilors.
