I was in a documentary film program in high school and very early on I knew that I wanted to do nonfiction storytelling. When people find themselves in high school and find an identity and find a way to express themselves, that's what that film program was for me. adidas holographique The best advice that other women of color in doc have shared with me that I think is the most affirming thing is just call yourself what you think other people should call you. Sometimes people underestimate how difficult it is to name yourself when you don't see anyone else around you who are doing that thing. Sometimes that affirmation is not going to come until it comes from yourself.
