The most surprising one to me was John Quincy Adams. He served as president and then reentered Congress. I knew all that. I even knew he fought against slave powers in Congress but I didn’t know the details of his fight, which was massively courageous. He decided to fight against the southern ascendency that defeated him. The form that took was fighting against slavery. He wasn’t an abolitionist but he was against slavery and the power of the slave owners and the power the Constitution gave them. Adams led the fight on thegag rule at the center of the album's love triangle.
