I was like, ‘Just want to say hi.’ He was like, ‘Oh, my god.’ He was having a fanboy moment; I was having a fangirl moment and a Drake moment.” We‘re sure the young cast ofThis Is Us which hits theaters on (appropriately enough) Friday, April 13. He plays Lucas, whom he describes as “an earnest, good guy for the most part, but sometimes his facade cracks a little bit.” A college senior with a tight-knit circle of friends, Lucas finds himself caught between his girlfriend, Markie (Violett Beane), and Olivia (Lucy Hale is set to make its Disney+ debut, and while the spinoff will be different from the OG Disney Channel film, there is a major surprise in store for fans. “We filmed that kind of later into the shoot, so we had all gotten to know each other. Just the idea of one of us not being on set every day was a little sad.” The cast, he notes, is close now — they hang out together and actors have returned from their onscreen “deaths” to visit the set, and have since reunited at barbecues and house parties. The opening sequence in the film, which features social media–style footage of the characters running around the beach in Mexico, was filmed by the actors themselves. “It was one of the most lighthearted, fun sets that I’ve ever been on,” Tyler notes, which seems a little odd given the subject matter. As it turns out, he explains, the group's friendship was crucial to keeping the shoot together during its short run. “That type of shooting atmosphere and schedule is kind of grueling, and if you don’t have good people around you, it could be a little intense.”
