Kat’s inner life—in her bedroom, clicking “yes” to FaceTime—was really special to me because my experience of living in shame and isolation happened in my bedroom. The emotions that I went through online—like the embarrassment of people finding out that you know that you're fat—led me to different paths in life. As an adult looking back, that sucked, but it makes sense because high school is the worst social experiment in the world. I felt like I was invisible in high school, to the point where people from my own high school would ask me what school I went to. That’s the exact opposite of my career now. People pay attention to me more because I'm different, negative or not, but that doesn’t reflect how the actual world works.Weston Colton/A24 adidas model jobs Kat is a character that everyone can be entertained by, but her storyline resonates deeply with a fraction of people who understand the pain and shame. It's funny because the demographic for Kat is young girls and young people who are struggling with their body image, but older people, who have changed themselves to be what other people want, have also really responded. Body shaming is insidious in every community. It really surprised me that Kat’s story resonated with so many different types of people.
