Savor those moments in the beginning when everything's brand new. I think I've had a lot of really amazing milestones in my career, but nothing has really matched that feeling when I first found out that people wanted to buy my book. I remember I was in grad school, living in the dorms. I was an RA, and I was cooking illegal macaroni and cheese on a hot pot, and then I remember my agent called and then the noodles went completely soft because I was talking to her on the phone about the fact that my book was going to auction.
