As I walked home from my haircut, I thought about his death and the fact that I now had five friends who died because of gun violence. They became a statistic; they got taken too early, and it’s not fair. My mind was preoccupied with those thoughts, so when my ears got cold I put my hood up without thinking twice. Looking back, I realize that may have made me a target. I soon got the feeling that someone was coming up on me and when I looked back, I got hit with the front end of a gun. I almost lost consciousness, but as I felt like everything had turned sideways, I knew what I got hit with and I knew it was time to run for my life. Luckily, they knew what to do. My dad put my leg up, my sister put pressure on the wound, and called 911. Why me? I thought. Why is this happening to me? I’m a good person. I’m not involved with any of this.
