The crazy thing about it though is I don't remember anything. I was about to turn 16 and my parents got me this car. I woke up and I was like, "What happened to my car?" They were like, "No. No. Your car's fine." They were like, "You jumped in front of a car." That was when I was 15 and I left a voicemail on my friend's phone. I was, like, crying. Like, crying in the bushes. I was like, "I have no friends. No one likes me." It was the angstiest time of my life. My parents had put me on antidepressants...But, yeah, I still have a metal rod in my leg. When the seasons change or when I walk upstairs I still feel it and I'm reminded of it. That's also a positive thing because I would never imagine that I'd be living in New York and doing music full-time. It's almost like if things were reversed and I wasn't here, it's like, why not do everything you can now? Because the alternative is just doing nothing.TV: sks mudguards It's kind of about relationships and me, and about what it is to live with a heavy heart and experience things. I take things very harshly as a sensitive soul. sks mudguards Yeah. The first song is the title track. It's the one that is exclusively produced and written by me. The ones I worked with some friends and my keyboardist in my band. This was in my bedroom. It's called "Heavy Heart". It's like, "heavy hearts fall faster, every hurt lasts longer." That was the idea, that every experience I have usually ends up in my music. Even if it's really subtle, like having a conversation with someone at a bar, I will write it down and then it will make its way into my music. Sometimes that's caused rifts in my friendships. I've written songs about people that they know are about them.
