When I was growing up, I rarely saw a Filipino woman on American television. I accepted the two were separate. It never really bothered me or my parents, who don’t go a day without watching The Filipino Channel (TFC). I don’t remember the last time my mom watched anything in English, and not because she can’t speak the language. My parents say the real reason they’re so into TFC is because of how much they love the actors.
