“Anytime that I feel hopeless or demoralized, I always lean back on my supporters and their belief that they have in me to carry this torch and to get the work done, knowing that the battle that we’re facing is not something that’s going to be won overnight. I’m sure we can make gains overnight, but we’re not going to achieve full liberation for some time with white supremacy so ingrained in our society. We’re playing the long game. We’ve seen a mass mobilization of people over the course of the last, I’d say, six years. And I think there’s been the biggest increase of political activity and people getting engaged with politics from 2016 on. But I don’t think the full effects of the work that we’re doing today will be seen probably for another six to 10 years. So I keep that in the back of my head.”TV drum brakes bike for an activist project, resulting in a presidential grant ofclemency for Alice Marie JohnsonGet theTeen VogueTake.Sign up for theTeen Vogueweekly emailWant more fromTeen Vogue?
