Most of her interactions are online, including the class in architecture that she’s taking, the short book reviews she posts, and the SCID support group she’s in. But when a new family moves in next door, Maddy becomes quickly intrigued by a boy named Olly after he comes over with his sister to offer a Bundt cake from their mom. Maddy’s mom tells Olly she can’t accept the cake, which could be a potential allergen, and Olly manufactures creative end-of-life scenes featuring the Bundt cake (he jokingly pushes the baked good to its "death" from his second-story window along with some other set-ups).
