"Singing was something I always did. I really don’t remember a time when I wasn’t singing, even as a little child. I first picked up a guitar when I was ten years old; my parents surprised me with it for my tenth birthday. I started taking lessons when I was thirteen, but only for a few months, and then I just kept teaching myself. It’s weird because in high school, I took a lot of drama and theater classes, rather than music. I always did music privately as a hobby, I think partly because I was nervous to do it in front of other people. I started performing in talent shows, and that helped me get more comfortable singing in front of people. And the reaction I got—that they liked my music and what I was doing—that made me more comfortable too. I started recording covers of songs on my computer and posting them on YouTube."WHAT MAKES YOU WORTH LISTENING TO: 700c x 40 "It’s crazy that ’Here’ just came out a few weeks ago, the response has been so amazing. It wasn’t even supposed to be a single really. We just put it out to introduce me as an artist, thinking it might get picked up by a few blogs, and it just blew up. I don’t think anyone was expecting it—it’s been awesome. We have the album pretty much done, I’ve been recording it over the last year, so we’re just finalizing everything now and will be releasing it in the fall. I actually just filmed my music video for the next single, ’Wild Thing,’ in LA this week. It was crazy to be on a big production like that, but it was really fun."WHO IS ALESSIA CARA: 700c x 40 If that doesn't make you want to scream, we don't know what will.
