So we developed a relationship that was very much about me challenging him, educating him, and inviting him in to understand our community. But he also came in and shaped and groomed me — he empowered me to make decisions. He promoted on the pilot shoot and was like, “You should be a producer. You should have more. You mean more to this community.” He would never call himself a mentor, but that’s what he is. He saw something in me and he thought, she needs an opportunity. That’s all she needs.
