I wanted to write a story about two friends. Part of that stemmed from feeling like friendships between two women are portrayed [poorly in media] — there are elements of selfishness, or they sometimes butt up against each other. But I wanted to kind of write a story that felt more like my friends and like my communities. There was also this feeling of like, never really getting to see women of color from different racial backgrounds be friends on-screen, despite that being my whole life.
