“Their job, basically, is to look out for their party candidates around the country to support them with things like research, polling, [and] money to run their campaigns.” As an African-American woman, there's not a single day that passes that I'm not in awe of our contribution to every corner of American society. Since the first day we arrived in chains on America's shores some 400 years ago, we've built this country — and done so in the face of systematic racism, dehumanizing stereotypes, and centuries of terrorism and violence. to stress the need for gun control reform and call out those who say this isn’t about guns or that it’s too soon to talk politics. It's a really odd experience. I remember all the moments in the film as memories, yet when it's played back, you get to see how other people see you. I forget that it's me, and not just a character in a movie. In some ways, it's cathartic; I've gotten to reflect back on high school in a really concrete way through the film. So it's weird and uncomfortable, but kind of amazing to watch yourself grow up and mature in ways that I never would've realized I had.Lena:
