I want us to divorce those two concepts from each other. Kindness is about being generous, friendly, considerate of others. Civility is about politeness and formality, which is often used to silence voices that aren't in the majority, people who look, act, or think outside of what is considered 'normal.' When I hear people talking about civility, I hear them saying ‘Wait your turn’ or ‘Be quiet,’ or worst of all, ‘Don't rock the boat.’ But when we talk about kindness, we're talking about acting in love and inclusivity, and about supporting each other in our choices and actions.
